A long time ago when I began printing personalised products, I needed an online presence and I chose the ecommerce platform ZenCart. It served its purpose, but was a little limited in flexibility and layout design. For some time, I felt that it needed more of my time to get under the hood and turn it into something I felt comfortable with than I could give it. My focus right then was to get the business up and running. Still, it served its purpose even if upgrading it was tricky and meant that I often ran a non-updated version of the platform.
Later, I replaced my ZenCart online shop with an OpenCart presence. OpenCart was more modern-looking by default, but upgrading it proved to necessitate a lengthy “create from scratch, and test again, then recreate all products/users/etc”. Not an ideal situation, but the site worked and proved fairly successful. It helped ensure the business stood on its own two feet for quite some time.
With all online ecommerce platforms, the ability to customise it to suit individual purposes is key – especially when it comes to regional specifics such as currency, postage, etc.
